Since we launched this website on July 8, 2008, we've had lots of questions about what the aim of this campaign has been. Some of these questions are below.

Why is Best Friends promoting a political candidate?
We aren't. This campaign developed out of a statement President-Elect Obama made on the campaign trail -- that he intended to add a dog to the family as a reward for his daugther's patience with his intense campaign efforts. We focused on this statement as a means to get out the message that if a First Family could adopt a dog, anyone could -- and should.

Why not just let the Obamas pick their own dog?
We're not trying to pick a dog for the Obama family. We're trying to raise awareness that any kind of dog (or cat, bunny, etc) can most likely be adopted from a resuce or shelter. Purebreds (even specialty breeds) and mutts are out there waiting to be rescued. With so many animals waiting for their forever home, there's just no reason to buy an animal from a pet store or breeder.
