Sadly due to canine over population in USA it has been claimed that 2-3 million dogs are put to death each year.
So please do go to a dog shelter – as every family that gets a dog from a dog shelter is one less dog that loses its life.
There is great comfort from getting a dog from a dog shelter. Do make sure you can cope with the dog and always think about your life style.
When you are taking your dog from the dog shelter you must remember that patience is the key and the first time you separate a puppy from his pack is the one time you must literally have the patients of a saint!
What dog shelter – well globally there are thousands and thousands. I recommend a visit to your local vet as they should be able to recommend a good dog shelter.
Remember tough a dog is for life and not just Christmas.
A good dog shelter accepts every animal or partner with another local shelter facility. They accept any animal without a fee.
Check the dog shelter is clean and comfortable and also a safe environment for each dog.
Dog shelters normally hold strays for around 5 days and they spray or neuter all dogs at the time of adoption.
So go and visit one today.

So at petsmart I found this cool dog shelter! Would this work to keep my animal safe from the animals outside while im at school and my parents are at work? also is there enough room to put a small dog house in here? Remember my dog is a yorkie so he is very small! also don’t worry i will give him food, water and plenty of toys and things to chew on! Thank u for the help!
yeah i will change my mind and keep it inside. Its just i only have 4 weeks until school starts. can i potty train it in that time. also where should it use the bathroom while im at school. it can’t go outside because it would get eaten. My parents don’t agree with the diaper idea or the special sheets u put on the fround. also the dog litter idea! they only believe in the newspaper way! will that work just as well?

I would not leave a Yorkie outside unattended, no matter what. They are just too small to ward off other animals, should something happen to the shelter, too interested in vermin should they get loose, and too tempting for some unscrupulous person to steal.
That said, if it’s a pen-type enclosure, and you can put a crate in one end with blankets, etc., and food and water on the other (and newspaper or a doggie litter box if no one can let the dog out during the day), it would work well in a heated, cool garage, basement or other part of the house. The kitchen or laundry room are good options, too.

you didn’t describe what the dog shelter is at all, so i really can’t answer your question…
Your dog is small and could easily be eaten by anything…
yorkies should be kept indoors so actually keep him inside when you aren’t home so he is safe from the cold/heat and other animals
I would never, ever leave a dog as small as a Yorkie outside for an extended period of time. Small dogs were not bred to be left outside. Do you have a fence? I don’t know how big the shelter is, so I can’t tell you if a dog house would fit in it or not. A better solution would be to baby gate your Yorkie in a room where he won’t get hurt, but will be out of the weather.
Many people crate their dogs in the house while they are gone. I hope you and your parents will reconsider this decision.
why ould you want that i could only really see anyone doing that if they were going some where and they cant take the animal with them and personaly i have never trusted any one with my chihuahua not because she doesnt like strangers but that she is the most important thing in my life next to my wonderful mom
and i never leave my small lil’ doggy alone outside by her self
she is crazy enough to warn off people(seriously she is) nut not other animals ust buy a small inclosure and pin th lil thing up i the house or let it run wild in the home till someone comes home(i dont know if your dog is boy/or girl so sorry )
Dogs, especially little tiny ones, should not be kept outside for long periods of time. They are domesticated and are not used to being outdoors all of the time. The extreme heat and cold can actually kill dogs. If you are going to get a dog and you are worried about it getting into things while you are not home, get a medium size doggie crate for inside. You can put her bed and toys and food and water in it and she will be comfortable all day long. Plus, you are leaving her unprotected against larger dogs that could attack and kill her. I had two Rottweilers attack my dog in our own yard.
I have always thought that it is cruel to leave dogs outside. They are part of the family and deserve to be treated as such. What if your parents left you outside in the heat all day while they wre at work? How would you feel? I don’t want to lecture you or be mean, but I want you to understand what you are doing to the poor little pup.
You haven’t said were you live for one for us to know the climate.
If it’s anywhere like where I live it’s hellishly hot in the summer and I definitely wouldn’t want to leave a little yorkie outside in that weather even with a dog house. These aren’t air-conditioned and depending what it’s made of might be even more succeptable to trapping heat (like a car does) than keeping a nice cool place for your dog. Some bigger dogs have a higher tolerance for the heat but smaller ones I’d be careful. I would suggest leaving your dog inside for the summer so it keeps cool, calm and unstressed.
You should never, ever, leave a Yorkie outside. They are just way to small and a hawk or eagle, or snake could take them or eat them. Trust me, there was a neighbor that had that happen to her Yorkie.

If I were you, I would buy a little crate or kennel to keep the yorkie in the house while you are gone. You could buy a larger one and put a bed and his food and H2O in as well – keeping a tiny dog locked up outside is just not a good idea.
We have a black lab and she is in her crate, in the garage, when we aren’t at home with her. She loves her crate, her bones, food and water are in there too – it’s like a safe haven/sanctuary for her. She will ask to go in when she’s tired of playing. It is where she prefers to sleep too.
